Colin MacIntyre is a multi-instrumentalist, programmer, songwriter and producer, who releases under the pseudonym ‘Mull Historical Society’. MacIntyre released his 4th MHS album in Jan 2012. There have been three other MHS albums to date, achieving two top twenty chart albums and four top 40 chart singles. His debut, ‘Loss’ went Gold and has been widely hailed as one of the best British albums of that year. He has been voted Scotland’s Top Creative Talent at the Glenfiddich Spirit Of Scotland Awards and into the top Scottish artists of all time public poll by The List Magazine. His first MHS chart single ‘Watching Xanadu’ recently made STV’s ‘Scotland’s Greatest Album’ as one of the top tracks of the 00’s. Colin hails from Tobermory on the Isle Of Mull in the Scottish Hebrides (pop 2,500 people, 26,234 sheep) and taught himself to play by watching his uncle’s covers band, going on to make his debut performance with microphones attached to broomsticks. He has also released two albums under his own name: ‘The Water’ (2008), produced by Lemon Jelly’s Nick Franglen, on his own label Future Gods Recordings, with The Guardian hailing it ‘Pop perfection’. In 2009 Colin released his most stripped-back album to date, ‘Island’, recorded in his old school classroom. It was known to be played on none other than Brian Wilson’s tour bus. He has collaborated with Irvine Welsh and Tony Benn, and toured with The Strokes, Elbow and REM. His new Mull Historical Society album, his 6th in total, entitled ‘City Awakenings’, was released in January 2012 on Xtra Mile Recordings on the 10th anniversary of ‘Loss’. Produced by the Grammy-winning Dom Morley (Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson, Grinderman), it is his tribute to Glasgow, London and New York – the three cities which have most influenced the musician and islander abroad. MacIntyre co-produced the closing track ‘Thameslink (London’s Burning)’, which he first performed on acoustic guitar at his father’s funeral (his father’s death inspired ‘Loss’). First single is radio hit ‘The Lights’, and the next release will be the exclusive ‘Must You Get Low’ vinyl EP, featuring ‘It Seems’ an unreleased MHS track from the ‘Loss’ sessions’.
