Bristol based five piece Coasts release their debut single ‘Oceans’ via Tidal Recordings on February 25th 2013. This release follows on from two successful free download offerings that saw the band pick up tastemaker support from Artrocker, CRACK and Radio 1. This support helped them gain the attention of producer Duncan Mills (Sissy and the Blisters, the Vaccines, Peace) who subsequently invited the band to record with him at Strongroom Studios.
The five friends all met at Bath University and formed over the summer of 2011. For a band in such an early stage of existence its safe to say their musical knowledge and understanding becomes immediately apparent with their concise, catchy song structures and animated, dynamic live performances. The band themselves describe their sound as a cohesion of ‘tribal drums, tropical strings, thundered keys and lost cries’.
Like ‘Stay’ & ‘Lions’, the free downloads of 2012 ‘Oceans’ is yet another sun drenched indie pop anthem with the tropical vibe that is associated with all facets of Coasts identity. The single sees the band pick up where they left with off with 2012’s free downloads which saw them compared to bands such as Two Door Cinema Club and Friendly Fires.
‘Oceans’ is due for release on 25th February via Tidal Recordings. The single will be followed up immediately by the ‘Paradise’ EP, on which ‘Oceans’ will be included. To support the single and EP release Coasts will be embarking on a nationwide tour; dates TBC.
